What was the defining moment that made you choose your field of study/career path?
I’ve always been fascinated by people—what we perceive and feel, how we think, why we are the way we are—and neuroscience offered the most structural and honest way to begin to understand the human experience. Furthermore, my sophomore year at Penn, I began shadowing a stereotactic neurosurgeon who specialized in deep-brain stimulation for movement disorders. The first time I observed brain surgery was one of the most spectacular experiences of my life.
Personal
How would you describe your personality?
I operate with high self-directedness; everything I’ve ever accomplished was under no influence other than my own initiative. I do not need external pressure to move with discipline or direction. I’m inventive, resourceful, and strategic—if there’s not a way, I’ll see to it that one’s created. While I manage risk carefully, I don’t shy away from it. There’s a natural cleverness to how I think and engage with others. I’m an interesting person who likes to think unique thoughts and make people laugh. I value intelligence and composure, and I respect education deeply, both in an academic sense and in the way others represent themselves. In all that I do, it’s important to me that I’m of use to others, surrounded by people I genuinely respect, and contributing to something greater than myself. I think in terms of what compounds forward, which is why I’m drawn to refinement and outcomes that endure. I have little tolerance for complacency or the avoidance of responsibility.
How would people who know you describe you?
I’m someone who is very easy to get along with. I have many friends and many different types of friends, and I feel comfortable striking up conversation with anyone about anything. My presence tends to put others at ease—I build trust naturally because I listen well, observe, and communicate without pretense. I’m also very reliable: when I commit, I follow through. I’m consistent in effort, steady in conduct, and dependable under pressure. I think clearly when stakes are high, largely because I hold myself to demanding standards and carry a strong internal locus of control. I’m also disciplined and competitive in a constructive way; I’m motivated to excel without derailing those around me. I respect hierarchy when it’s earned and willingly take guidance from those above me.
What is your favorite cuisine or dish to consume?
Some of my favorite dishes are Peking duck, unagi nigiri, birria de pescado, murgh makhani, escargots, steak frites, lobster rolls, and I’ll never dislike a nicely prepared cheeseburger.
What is a book you love?
The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Nausea by Jean-Paul Sartre, and The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut are all excellent.
What books are you currently reading?
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.
Favorite TV Shows/Movies?
A few of my favorite TV shows are Chuck, The Americans, Homeland, and La Casa de Papel. Movie-wise, I love Arrival, Good Will Hunting, A Single Man, Secretariat, National Treasure, and The Devil Wears Prada.
Favorite Bands/Musicians?
My music taste is eclectic and leans international. Some of my favorite artists are The Cure, Sade, Fairuz, Chris Isaak, George Michael, Hamid El Shaeri, Molchat Doma, and Pink Floyd.
Do you play any instruments?
Music is a core part of my heritage. My father has been a professional drummer for fifty years, and while I only ever played the clarinet, his deep musical appreciation is something I’ve fundamentally inherited.
Any sports you enjoy/excel at?
I’ve played sports all my life, typically balancing two to three simultaneously. My most competitive sport was soccer, which I played for 15 years. In addition to claiming several regional and national trophies, I was a captain of Colorado’s Olympic Development Program, where I traveled to Costa Rica to train with a professional youth academy. I also enjoy basketball, tennis, rowing, skiing, swimming, and weightlifting.
What hobbies/activities do you enjoy?
I love to play chess, read philosophy, photograph architecture and landscapes, visit art gallery exhibitions, walk through museums, explore cities, and watch films.
Favorite places you’ve visited or would love to travel to?
Travel is one of my finest priorities and most gratifying pursuits. I love many places for dissimilar but not mutually exclusive reasons: Prague for its architecture, Mexico City for its food, Shanghai for its scale and dynamism—the next cities on my list are Chongqing, Tbilisi, and Cairo. I generally prefer to explore off the beaten path as I find those experiences to yield the most curious insights; they challenge my beliefs and every time I’m humbled.
Who are you closest to in your family and why?
My younger sisters. Because we grew up in the same unique environment, we developed very similar senses of humor. The wit we share keeps me grounded.
Who are the most important people in your life?
My friends, specifically those I consider to be more intelligent or more successful than myself. I am a firm believer that we are the average of the people we surround ourselves with, so I intentionally strive to be in the company of those I can consistently rely on to test my assumptions and provoke me to better myself.
What would you consider to be your greatest strengths?
I admire my confidence and open-mindedness. I trust myself deeply and continually seek to uncover and expand my limits while questioning and provoking my assumptions. I never view a failed attempt as permanently regretful—I see it as instruction that sharpens future performance. I also admire my resilience. Given where I’ve been and what I’ve done, I’m never unimpressed that I didn’t succumb to the tremendous academic pressure or grow even the slightest bit doubtful of my abilities and potential. Stress clarifies my focus rather than destabilizing it. I take pride in my psychological consistency and my ability to remain composed regardless of the intensity of the situation.
What are your special talents?
I speak basic Chinese, basic Russian, and intermediate Spanish. Artistically, I used to be quite good at drawing and had several of my works selected to be displayed at district-wide exhibitions. I also modeled professionally when I was younger and over the years have been scouted several times to model again.
What is something you've accomplished in life that you are most proud of?
In high school, I was Salutatorian of my class of over 500 students and a National AP Scholar (I scored 4 or higher on 18 AP exams.) I then received a full-ride scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 3.94 GPA in Neuroscience and Chemistry. In addition to my studies, I was selected, based on outstanding academic performance, to serve as a teaching assistant and tutor for three upper-level STEM courses: Linear Algebra and Differential Equations, Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology, and Organic Chemistry II Laboratory. Alongside academics, maintaining a disciplined diet and physical training regimen has also been personally significant.
What is something people would be pleasantly surprised to learn about you?
I was raised by a single mother alongside two younger sisters, so I grew up in an all-female household. This led me to develop deep levels of empathy, social fluidity, and emotional intelligence that most people probably wouldn’t immediately expect from someone with my background.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Where I see myself is less about discrete milestones and more about the pursuit of a specific, worthwhile existence. I strive for beauty—both in a literal aesthetic sense and in a broader beauty of purpose. I try to take every opportunity to refine my taste and worldview, whether through exploring new places, meeting new people, or testing my physical and mental limits. I aim to build a legacy that is as distinctive as it is impactful. Beyond personal achievement, there are few things I value more than interesting and meaningful company. Being around people who think deeply, challenge my beliefs, and move with intent energizes me endlessly.
What is one change you wish to see in the world?
I wish people would take themselves and life less seriously. I believe there is a specific kind of power in being able to pursue excellence with absolute intensity while still maintaining the lightness of mind to laugh at the absurdity of it all.
What are your favorite words to live by?
“The function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.” - Jack London
Why do you want to become a sperm donor?
I’m motivated by the opportunity to help families who want children but require medical assistance, especially those who are deliberate about the traits and background they hope to find. If what I’ve developed and been fortunate to inherit aligns with that, I consider donation a tremendous honor.
If you could send the intended parents who are considering you a message, what would it be?
I see every day the depth of joy and meaning raising a child can bring. I approach donation with the highest respect for parents' trust and the responsibility it carries, and I very much look forward to connecting with those whose hopes and intentions align with my own.
